Taken from Governement of NL Website:

Commercial trailers (including fifth wheels) are required to be inspected when the vehicle is 1 model year old (12 months from the date of manufacture) and each year thereafter.

The inspection is valid for a 12 month period and a valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.

A copy of the inspection DOES NOT have to be filed at MRD, but must be kept in the vehicle and an inspection IS NOT required for transfer of ownership following a sale.

Did you know ...

  • All trailers registered for 4545kgs or above are required to have annual safety inspections completed as per provincial regulations.
  • The fine for the first offence for operating a commercial vehicle without a current annual inspection/sticker is $1560, second offence is $3120 and so on.
  • If pulled over without an annual inspection, the trailer will have to be grounded and you will be required to find alternate arrangements to get the trailer to a certified inspection station.
  • The costs associated with not having an annual inspection are significant and it is also much safer to have your commercial trailer inspection done annually.
  • It will save you and/or your company time and money at the end of the day and you will have the peace of mind that your trailer has been inspected by one of our professionals here at Atlantic Trailer & Tractor.
